'Boris-bikes' & funtimes

"Maybe it's because I'm a Londoner
That I love London town!"

Freezing cold London yet 'toasty' funtimes to be had on the Boris bikes!!

Verdict: fabulous - but not enough of them and/or their docking stations for Londoners & tourists today - boy! were we out in droves??!!!!

But even factoring in the little 'supply & demand' hiccough, the London bike-share-scheme is a million times better than the Melbourne one - how can this be so?

  1. People keep telling me that cycling in Australia is so dangerous & that is why the Brisbane & Melbourne cycle share schemes are not successful, blah, blah, blah. HELLO!! no city in Aus can compare with the traffic & congestion in London. I should know, I lived and cycled there for 5 yrs. And yet they achieved over a million journeys in 10 weeks on the Boris bikes. They are now saying that it may be the only part of the London Transport network that will make a profit!
Could it perhaps have something to do with Mandatory Helmet Laws? Mmmmmm........I wonder......

  2. Gary, you're right - it's all too silly for words in Australia namely because our politicians are so blinkered and stubborn!!

  3. Hello SSH.Oh boy,I'm beginning to sound more and more like Kevin Rugg from Beaumaris who wrote a weekly letter to the Age for 25 years or so!

I'm starting to see more and more people on Melbourne bike share bikes down here in StKilda, most of whom are sans helmet. The reality is,if you come from overseas,or even interstate, what are they going to do?Stop you at the airport?I suspect the constabulary turn a blind eye to 'foreign' tourists and just harrass the locals, where they have a better chance of collecting.

    cheers,

    Ian
